Tasty Thai Information

Just off Sand Lake Road in Onalaska, Tasty Thai has quietly built a reputation among locals who crave bold flavors and comforting Southeast Asian dishes without needing to travel far from the La Crosse area. Located at 235 Sand Lake Road, the restaurant sits in a convenient strip of businesses that makes it easy to stop by for lunch during the workday or settle in for a relaxed dinner. The moment you step inside, the casual atmosphere feels welcoming rather than overly formal, with warm lighting, simple décor, and the subtle aroma of lemongrass, garlic, and chili drifting from the kitchen.

The menu leans heavily into classic Thai favorites, which is exactly what most diners hope for when they visit a place like this. Pad Thai is one of the most frequently mentioned dishes in local reviews, and it’s easy to see why. The noodles arrive lightly coated in a tangy tamarind sauce, balanced with crushed peanuts, bean sprouts, and a squeeze of lime. The portion size is generous, and the kitchen allows customers to choose their spice level, something Thai restaurants in the United States often adapt to suit a wide range of palates. Even at a medium spice level, the dish carries a pleasant heat that builds gradually rather than overwhelming the flavors.

Curries are another highlight on the menu. The red curry, served with coconut milk, bamboo shoots, bell peppers, and fresh basil, has a rich texture that pairs especially well with jasmine rice. On a recent visit, the green curry with chicken stood out for its fragrant herbal notes and balanced spice, suggesting the kitchen pays attention to the traditional flavor profile Thai cuisine is known for. Soups like tom yum bring a bright, citrusy punch thanks to lime leaves and lemongrass, and they work well as a starter if you’re planning a full meal.

Service tends to be friendly and efficient, which many regular customers appreciate. Staff members are usually happy to explain menu items or suggest combinations if someone is new to Thai food. During busy dinner hours the dining room can fill up quickly, but orders still come out at a steady pace. Many diners also opt for takeout, and the restaurant seems well set up for that, with packaging that keeps dishes hot and intact on the ride home.

Local feedback across multiple dining platforms generally reflects consistent satisfaction with the food quality and value. While the space itself is fairly simple compared to upscale Thai restaurants in larger cities, the focus here clearly leans toward flavor and authenticity rather than flashy presentation. For residents around Onalaska or visitors passing through western Wisconsin, the location makes it an easy stop for anyone looking for comforting noodles, flavorful curries, and a menu that delivers the familiar staples of Thai cuisine.

What People's Say About Place

Tasty Thai just opened and they are already extremely popular and busy. On a Thursday evening, the restaurant was busy by 5pm, all tables were filled and with many take orders coming through. It's a small family owned restaurant and they do the best they can to be attentive with the crowd which is amazing. We had a group of 8 and all of us ordered a bit of everything to try and i will say, Tasty Thai is by far the best Asian restaurant in town since moving here. Their seasoning is perfectly on point! The start dishes of the night was the Lao Papaya & Samosas. Highly recommend during your visit. Otherwise all the noodle dishes are amazing! Service may be slow but that's only because they are extremely busy so I'd say be patient because you are definitely forgotten. All dishes are cooked by order so it is fresh and hot. Warning: If you like spicy food, I'd recommend 1 pepper only as their pepper is very spicy. I have high tolerance for spice and 1 pepper was equivalent to 5. Check them out! They are great and we will definitely be returning.

The place was nice and clean. Food was fresh and hot and the staff was very nice, staff would come up to our table asking if we needed a refill or anything else every 20ish minutes. Would definitely eat here again!

very large and very clean restaurant! We had some of the best thai food, ordering spicy drunken noodles and pad see ewe. The flavors were excellent. The egg rolls were excellent. we will definitely stop again, don't miss this thai restaurant!!

The scent of lemongrass and chilies wafts through the air, hinting at the culinary adventure that awaits within the warm embrace of Tasty Thai, a quaint restaurant tucked away in the heart of the city. Upon crossing the threshold, one is immediately struck by the vibrant tapestry of colors that adorn the walls, each thread telling a story of the rich cultural heritage that has been meticulously woven into the very fabric of the place. The gentle glow of paper lanterns casts a soft light over wooden furniture, carved with intricate patterns that whisper tales of distant lands. The ambiance is at once serene and vibrant, a delicate balance that mirrors the harmonious blend of flavors that dance upon the palate of each dish served here.

Love how this place is nice and spacious. When walked in when the restaurant was empty lol. Our food came out very fast. We ordered spicy wings which was waaaaaay too overwhelmingly HOT! There should be some sort of heat level on the menu. It was inedible. We then had the tasty Thai wings which was very good and crunchy along with a sweetness. Thai fried rice was ok. Nam vab was watery and could’ve used more syrup. Pad ka na had more veggie ratio than pork belly which was pretty disappointing but flavor was good. Papaya was alright, it was a bit too sweet to my liking. Very welcoming staff and also a plus that they have a baby changing table. This place does not offer boba btw which was surprising. Overall food was 6/10.

huge portions, good stuff! The spicy wings are actually a bit spicy! working my way through the menu as I stop in for lunch while working the next few weeks. The red Curry was quite good.
